It’s been several years since we decorated our living room, so it was time for a little living room refresh. I am so excited to share some easy living room refresh ideas with you today! It’s amazing how some new textiles can really change the look of a room.

Our living room is one of my favorite spaces in our room. I love the neutral palette and cozy vibe this room brings to our home. It’s the perfect place for our family to gather.

I was wanting to add a few new items in here for a quick and easy living room refresh. First on the list was a new rug! While I still liked the previous rug we had in our living room, it had picked up some various stains throughout the years from kids and pets. When I found this new rug at Joydeco, I was immediately sold! The black and white pattern is perfect to pick up on our living room gallery wall and other decor in the room. I also chose a larger size this time to take up a little more of the room, which I think provides a better visual impact as well.
I’m not one to let anything go to waste, so we’re moving the old rug down to our basement. That space is a little smaller, so the smaller rug will be a better fit. And although the old rug has a few stains, we previously had no rug at all in the basement–so, even the used rug will be an upgrade down there.

One unexpected bonus with this new living room rug is how soft it is! It feels so comfortable underneath my feet.

The next part of these easy living room refresh ideas is to change up your textiles. I decided to try out a couple new blankets, also from Joydeco. The grey throw blanket has a unique texture and is perfect to connect the grey in our couch to the rest of the room. I love how it looks draped over the black leather chair.
The white blanket is a muslin type material, which reminds me of my kids’ baby blankets–just a lot bigger. It’s super soft and perfect for snuggling. It provides a great contrast to our grey couch and coordinates well with the monochrome aesthetic of the living room.

Next, I’m planning to shop around for a new clock to go above our mantel. I picked this one up at Kirkland’s right after we moved into our house in 2012. It served us well for several years, until it stopped keeping time a few years ago. This clock is battery-operated, but eventually it died and changing the batteries did nothing. I’ve kept it up on the mantel for decorative purposes, however, I’d really like to find another piece that fits better with the vibe of the room (and is functional!).
I feel like I was making such good progress on our house until Alexis was born. Since then, I’ve been busy with having 3 kids and 2 businesses–and not a lot of extra time to decorate. That’s why I’m currently focusing on these easy living room refresh ideas that can be implemented in a matter of minutes, not days.

So, here is the current state of our living room. Long term, I’d like to replace the light fixture (perhaps a more modern one like this?), get a new clock over the mantel, and change out some of the decor on the shelves. But, we’ve still come a long way from where this room started–you can check out this post for a true (and kinda embarassing) before and after of this living room!
I’m very selective about the items I will bring into our home, so it can take awhile for me to find the perfect piece that fits both my intended aesthetic and my intended budget. But, decorating a home is a marathon, not a sprint!
