My husband has family in the Wichita, Kansas area, so we make our way down there a few times a year. This time was Colton’s favorite trip yet, because we had the chance to visit Field Station Dinosaurs in Derby, KS. He was in heaven! Keep reading to see these amazingly realistic dinosaurs…

This is the view when you first pass through the entrance at Field Station Dinosaurs in Derby, Kansas. As you can see, neither of my kids could look away!

The dinosaurs are extremely realistic. Many of them move their heads and tails, and some even make sounds. They range in size, just like the real dinosaurs did. Colton’s favorites were the smaller ones, or as he calls them,”Colton-sized.”
When you first enter the dinosaur park, the kids are presented with these official-looking credential booklets. They can earn stamps in their books by completing activities or seeing shows around the park. Colton held onto his credentials for dear life!
He earned a stamp in his book for seeing this show, the T-Rex Feeding Frenzy. It was definitely entertaining!
My sweet guy was a little disappointed that he wasn’t selected as one of the audience volunteers during the T-Rex show, so we made up our own Mommy & Colton show in one of the displays. I’ll be sad when he reaches the age where Mommy can’t make everything better.

The park is designed as though visitors are paleontologists, so some of the displays are designed as little workstations. It was fun to channel my inner Ross Geller. [Hopefully that reference doesn’t date meĀ too much.]
Colton wanted us to take a picture with these dinosaurs because he said one was Mommy-sized and one was Colton-sized. He loves talking to me about moms and babies… and big brothers, of course!
He’s gotten to the point that he sees sand, immediately pulls off his shoes and socks, throws them at me, and runs in. He tells me, “I want to feel the sand between my toes!” This dig pit is about the best we get in Kansas!
Field Station Dinosaurs in Derby, KS also has a miniature golf course on-site. It was Colton’s first time playing mini golf, and he really enjoyed it! The course was great for young kids. My only complaint is that not all of the course is stroller-friendly, so Blair and had to stop and wait while the boys played through some of the holes.

Overall, our trip to Field Station Dinosaurs in Derby, Kansas was a success!
