To me, one of the most interesting parts of being a millennial is having experienced life both with and without the Internet. I remember my family getting (dial-up) AOL Internet when I was about 11 years old. Since then, I’ve spent a lot of time online. I’ve even built my own business 100% online. Even with as many years as I’ve spent online, I was confused when I started hearing about VPNs. Why do I need a VPN? And what are the benefits of a VPN?

Why do I need a VPN?
I’ve heard a lot of chatter about VPNs, but mostly I just had one question: why do I need a VPN? After doing some research, I found there are a few major benefits of a VPN:
- Data privacy (from your ISP and other websites)
- Encryption
- Built-in ad and/or tracker blocking
- Hide info from other devices on your network (useful if on public wifi)
Data privacy has been a hot topic recently, so I think the privacy benefits of a VPN could be well worth it.
What is the best VPN?
After deciding to look into VPNs, I have been researching which are the best VPNs. One that caught my eye was SafeShell VPN. I love that SafeShell VPN works on so many different types of devices–Windows, Mac, Android, Smart TVs, and more. I’m a Mac person and my husband is Windows/Android, so we have all types of devices in our home. Being able to use a single product on all of the devices in our home is so helpful!
Other great features of SafeShell VPN include worldwide coverage, top-tier encryption, and safeguarding of your IP address. In this age of having your data constantly compromised and sold, it’s nice for a consumer to be able to take back some of their privacy.
How do I get a VPN?
Good news! If you want to try SafeShell VPN for yourself, they are currently offering a free trial as of the time of publishing. I’m not sure how much longer this offer will last, but you can check it out here to get your own free trial while you still can! The instructions on the SafeShell VPN website make it super easy to download and set up your own VPN, plus they have a large FAQ section where you can find answers to other common questions.
